When you get three quotes for a concrete project, the temptation is to go with the lowest number. But the factors that predict whether your driveway or patio holds up for 30 years have nothing to do with which bid was cheapest. Here's what actually matters.
Does the Contractor Visit Your Property?
Any legitimate concrete contractor should visit the job site before quoting. Site conditions — soil type, drainage, accessibility, existing base material — all affect the price and the approach. A contractor who quotes by phone based on square footage alone is either guessing or planning to cut corners when reality doesn't match their assumptions.
Is the Estimate Written and Itemized?
A written, itemized estimate shows that the contractor understands their own scope. You should be able to see the concrete thickness, PSI, finish type, whether demolition and haul-away are included, and what base preparation is planned. Vague estimates protect the contractor, not you.
Do They Carry Insurance?
Ask for proof of liability insurance before work begins. An uninsured contractor working on your property creates significant exposure if something goes wrong — an injury, damage to a vehicle or structure, or a utility line strike. Insurance is non-negotiable.
Is the Owner On-Site?
At Wagner Concrete, our owner is on-site for every project. That means the person responsible for the outcome is watching the work happen — not sending a crew and hoping for the best. This is rarer than you'd think among concrete contractors, and it makes a real difference in quality consistency.
Do They Offer a Written Warranty?
We've covered this elsewhere, but it bears repeating: a written warranty is the clearest signal that a contractor stands behind their work. We're the only one in Western Arkansas that offers it. Call (479) 551-1642 to schedule your free estimate.
