What to Expect During Your Concrete Project

November 20, 2024 | 5 min read | Wagner Concrete Co.

One of the most common concerns homeowners have before starting a concrete project is simply not knowing what to expect. Here's a straightforward walkthrough of how a typical project with Wagner Concrete Co. unfolds.

Step 1: The Free Estimate Visit

Every project starts with a free, no-obligation estimate. We come to your property — not just take measurements over the phone — so we can see site conditions and anything that might affect the scope or price. You leave with a detailed written estimate before we leave. No guessing, no ballpark figures.

Step 2: Scheduling

Once you accept the estimate, you'll know exactly when we're coming. We don't double-book jobs or show up a week late. Our owner is on-site for every project, so communication is direct.

Step 3: Site Preparation

This is often the most labor-intensive part. If we're replacing existing concrete, demolition comes first — we break it out and haul it away. We then prepare the sub-base: grading, adding base material, and compacting it properly. A solid base is what separates a driveway that lasts 40 years from one that cracks in 5.

Step 4: Pour Day

Concrete trucks arrive and we place the material. We screed the surface, float it, and apply the specified finish. Control joints are cut at the right locations. Depending on the pour size, this takes a few hours to a full day.

Step 5: Curing and Final Walkthrough

We apply a curing compound and do a final walkthrough to make sure you're satisfied before we consider the job complete. And unlike most contractors in the area, we back every job with a written warranty.
